*sigh*. What I really, really hate is people whining about how 'impossible' Domain of Anguish is. I know people before me have said this, but I'm going to say it again. Just to make it clear. Remeber when FoW/UW first appeared? "Omg, tooo hard!!!!111!!". But within a month or so, builds appeard and people were blazing through it. Now, everyone (almost) can get through FoW very easily. It's going to be exactly the same with Domain of Anguish, history repeats itself. In a month or so, people will have builds over all the GW's community sites telling us how to do this. Before you know it, everyone will be blazing through it like there's no tomorrow. I have been having a good go at DoA, and I'm throughly enjoying it. I love a good challenge, something that keeps me on my toes, something that makes me think about what I'm doing.
I say, enjoy the DoA and have a good go at it. Oh, and to you so called 'Elite players'. Wake up, there's no such thing as elite players. Even if there was, why can't you do this?
Remember, enjoy it!

I won't say it's easy.
I won't say it's not very, very, very challenging. (I added bold for emphasis, see that? )
However, I will that that it is do-able.
It'll just take us some time and effort to figure out how!
|
Well Miss Gray, of course is do-able, players will eventually come out with a solution in whatever you throw to them, but in difference with the other similar elite missions and big updates, anet gave us so far, this is NOT fun, this is not quality and this is not smart.
When you say it will take us some time and efford to figure out, means that we have to wait until some elite players or maybe the play testers, publish a solution in guild wiki for the rest 99.9% who only want to have some fun?
Do you think that this complains are like the complains you usualy got for your previous updates and elite missions. There are over 1000 posts in this thread and near 80.000 views before this thread goes 1 day old.
No Miss Gray this is a mass complain because you failed to deliver something funny and I dare to say because you failed to deliver the high quality anet got used us.
Let's hope that the player's opinion still matter and that you will deliver this message properly to anet creators.
Like I said in another thread that is closed now, I bother to write in here because I like your game and believe that anet has the best people in game industry, offering high quality, that care about their creation and your support is the best I have ever seen. This is an answer out of respect for you, not a flame.

I don't doubt that this area will be a lot easier for the masses in the coming months. Though comparing it to FoW is a little weak I would compare it to the other Elite missions in which party wipes can still happen but are much less common using the correct build instead of getting wiped by the first mob. I admit I have yet to even try DoA a combonation of not having time to bother with it yet and everyone is just complaining I don't think I will be able to find a pug that knows what its doing at this hour anyway.

I corrected your post for you.
I am having fun, I do think it is quality, and I do think it was smart. Lots of other people agree with me, just as lots of others agree with you.
So what does Anet do about it? Do they keep it the same as it is now to please the people that enjoy it, or do they dumb it down for the people who don't? They can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time, best they can do is try to do what will please the most.
If they keep it as it is now, people will work around it. They will come up with builds and strategies. Once these are there, people will be able to do it and it will be fun. Alternatively, they can make it easy and those that were having fun previously will no longer have fun, there won't be much to try and improve, and it'll turn into Sorrow's Furnace where most people can 5 man it (a bit of exaggeration).
In my opinion, eventually the former will please the masses whereas the latter will just make it all stale and boring faster.

We just beat the Stygian one. (7 humans, 1 hero)
Now two down, two more to go.
Should I post the strategies and builds here, or should I start another thread?
It wasn't too hard to finish the Stygian quest, and we did have tough time beating the margonite one, but I think with some tweaks, we can make consistant strategy for that one too.

Well, Lord Beramus, speak for yourself.
Cause we're having a blast with this mission. Awesome drops too. XD
Will post images of the greens we got from it
EDIT: I totally forgot this was Riverside Inn. Of course this isn't the place to post strageties... doh.

DoA reminds me of Vizunah Square on steroids ... waves after waves after waves of more and the same ... except that the level 20 afflicted are now reskinned as level 28 margonites.
how wonderfully inspired DoA is, aye?

Take 2 of these Rangers, and the AI Casters, who often clump up, can't do anything. Period. Who cares about 400 Invoke Lightning if they can't do anything about them?
Then just take a Curses Necro or Mesmer to sedate the Melee and Rangers.
Of course, it doesn't work in the Touch Necro area, but you get the point.
Hehe. Now I just have to find someone willing to confirm...sigh. Everyone is running that stupid Mantra of Frost build. I really need to get my Ranger through NF.

Let me go ahead and confirm for you. It's not enough FTW.

"All you people dont belong here. You all should leave"
"Only the owners and Alliance members should be here"
"You guys are smelling up the place with your noobish smells"
I love the challenge, and I WISH I could to The DEEP or URGOZ. But some people are so STUCKUP.
I am a Veteran player, But I am not an ELITE player. ANYONE who calls themselves ELITE should leave this game and take their ATTITUDES with them.
Earlier today I was asked to join a group and I did. My character was a Ele/Mesmer and the first question I was asked was did I have SF (searing Flames). While I was being asked, I spammed my build and said I could load Mantra frost, flame or lightning, whichever was needed. My point here is that I didnt answer his question fast enough because no sooner did I spamm my build, I was kicked from party and the party leader placed me on ignore before I could even say anything to him.
As for DOA, I have cleared the City, and the Stygian area. Were they hard....yes very. Was it a hand picked "SPECIAL" or "ELITE" only group...no, not even close. It was made up of regular players like myself, spurr of the moment. DOA takes patience, and determination, nothing more. If you are in a party, dont up and leave if you die..MANY times I have gone thru area with 30 to 45 DP and still come out ahead. This game is not only about killing the bad guys, its about you dying also.
If you think you are ELITE, then goto the deep or Urgoz and bury your head under the rocks with the other jerks because we (the Majority) dont want you.
|
Bingo. This was happening in an area as easy as Sorrow's Furnace. Mesmers couldn't get groups. Rangers were often left on the sidelines because it didn't fit the "elite" five man farm team.
This new content is going to end up doing just the same thing.
And yeah, most elite players are anai. And they don't want your character playing anything other than the way they would play it. In other words, they want your account working for them.

I have posted a guide to our strategy in Stygian Veil, the last of the four Mallyx quest, in the Elonian Explorler's League.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10085279
This elite quest is heck of a lot of fun, I suggest everyone make friends and play with guildies/alliances/friends. At least until all the builds and strategies are out there, and PuG won't be a total disaster.
I can't wait till I see the final mission after this

Sorry, you're not talking about Elite Players there. You're talking about wanna-be Elitists which is a complete difference. The wanna-bes are nothing more but noobs in disguise. So don't mix them up with the elite players.

Agreed, is is why I want henchmen in this area, granted it with henchman it may make it harder but at least I would be able to explore some what with out the jerks.

The "profession racism" arguement again... It's simple, every profession has it's time and places when they're needed more, sometimes a cookie cutter build pops up without your profession, and you're just screwed, too bad. Make use of the times your favorite profession(s) are used in cookie cutter builds. If you don't want to have this problem at all start a monk, otherwise, just don't whine about this, because you knew you made a profession with this problem or not on creation.
Now back on topic.
I'm really up for making a duo build for this. The OF tanking build is amazing, and a monk could smite off him very well. It should work, but interupts are a real problem, if you could work around that, you'll be set.

No its much deeper than that. It's not just about profession racism, that's pain enough. It's skill-bar elitism. If you're to be in this group you must equip these skills, no deviation.
I can't stand the guys that say, "Flash your skillbar." Then kick you after you do with no discussion. They are the worst. Then there's the ones that want to argue with you about a profession that you clearly understand better than they do.
Anyway, that's all off topic. I've taken my ranger in DoA about 50-60 times. I've not seen much that doesn't work against these mobs from a skilled ranger. But I have to say that trapping seems to do the most dps. Combined with conditions like cripple and kd, there's no good reason and ele can't mop up a bunch of kills after the mobs trigger.
I do have two questions regarding DoA from my fellow rangers. Why do I see people talking about a Greater Conflag / Winter combo? Does the damage become fire or cold? Or both? Or are you after anything but lightning damge?
Second question for trappers-- why Trapper's Speed? It doesn't seem that much faster than using Serpents Quickness, or tossing them down under QZ until and waiting until the spirit dies to aggro the mob.

The damage becomes cold as GC makes all physical damage fire damage and winter makes all elemental damage cold damage and hence nearly all damage dealt is cold damage.

Actually, people use it together with Mantra of Frost (MoF) to reduce all damage.
I'm not very fond of this build myself, as people think it's an easy to use cookie cutter. And a lot of players think you can just use any group as you as you have a blocker and a greater conflag/winter ranger.

The flaw with the GC/Winter build as far as I'm concerned is that;
Warriors can get more armor going W/E anyway.
The only elemental damage that matters is lightning. If you're that concerned about lightning damage, bring Mantra of Lightning. Yes, GC/Winter converts melee physical damage as well, but if you're not a warrior and you're being beat on continuously by an Anur Vu, you have bigger problems than your build.
It's a decent cookiecutter for pugging, but there are better uses of those slots.

Yeah, I've actually found that most GC/Winter builds either lack energy management or damage.
